Sometimes the business has moved on. Sometimes it’s just beginning.
Perhaps the product is better, the reputation is stronger or the ambition has grown, but the identity still belongs to an earlier version. The website explains the facts without conveying the value. Different parts have accumulated over time and no longer feel as though they come from the same place.
Or perhaps the venture is new, but the experience, audience and expectations behind it are not. You know that beginning with a placeholder would mean rebuilding the foundation just as the business begins to prove itself.
The circumstances are different. The need is similar: to make something valuable visible, coherent and convincing to somebody encountering it for the first time.
Nothing needs to be invented for effect. I look for what is already distinctive and consequential, then decide how it should be expressed across the identity and digital experience.
